American history in pictures
Never seen, never published photos by Roland Palm

Photographer Roland Palm.

Swedish photographer Roland Palm was a press photographer all his life, with his pictures published in major magazines during decades. I own his giant left-behind archive. Late in his life he took the time to go through his archive and organized it and captioned the photos. A work that all photographers should do as this is important for future generations and also for the history of both the photos and to tell the story.

What i have just recently found in his archive.

A while back i discovered his Kodachrome photos taken in USA in the 1950s and 1960s. Great storytelling in these photos and great quality. A publishers dream to have these unseen and unpublished photos from the decades of american nostalgia, and in color.

From his visits to USA he travelled in the american south and witnessed both afro american and white poverty, visibly so in some of the pictures. Just look at the children in their home, how dirty they are and the clothes they are wearing that have not been washed for a very long time.

He visited cities like Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco and his pictures really captures iconic views and topics. Apart from the pictures above his archive contains everything from US celebrities, tv-shows, landmarks, events and more.
