Waving goodbye a custom gone
Waving goodbye, a custom gone.

Things we used to do.

Waving goodbye, holding a handkerchief and waving with it, is one of many things that has disappeared. Just simply because there are very few nowadays who uses a linen handkerchief. Almost no one keeps it handy in their pockets anymore. The modern man or woman has grown out of the habit of having them, cleaning them, ironing them and using them.
To see the photo of the hand waving with a handkerchief is although surprisingly nice and i think most people know what it means and what it symbols. It makes you feel sad, romantic and nostalgic.
It also is symbolic of travelling, departing and separation.
A friend of mine told me she always had a linen handkerchief in her pocket. It had belonged to her grandfather and by keeping it, she held the memory of him close. A nice little story that proves the linen handkerchief is not totally forgotten.
