English actor who, along with his contemporaries Ralph Richardson, Peggy Ashocroft and John Gielgud, dominated the British stage of the the mid-20th century. He also worked in films throughout his career, playing more than fifty Cinema roles. Late in his career, he had considerable success in television roles.

In 1945 Olivier played the role of the warrior Hotspur in the play Henry IV in the Old Vic Theatre in London 1945. A history play by William Shakespeare.
30th anniversary of his death
Laurence Olivier was born 22 may 1907 and died 11 july 1989. A statue of him is outside the Royal National Theatre and on Hollywood Walk of Fame, he has a star.
