Hully Gully Dance Off

Dancing in the 1960s www.classicpicture.se

It happened in the 1960s. 1963 when these charming pictures were taken, the Hully Gully dance became popular. Unlike the pair dancing the Hully Gully was a type of unstructured line dance and consisted of a series of steps and was relatively simple and easy to execute. However when the speed became higher, it was hard to keep up. The blond dancer has her hair in the 1960s popular hairstyle The BeeHive. The goal was to have the hair high and reveal the beautiful female neck.  An example of the Hully Gully can be seen performed by John Belushi in the film Blues Brothers.

Dancing.  The twist, The Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Jive, Rock and roll are some of the famous dances that have passed through history. They disappear and appear again as the are frequently featured in tv shows and movies. Dancing is healthy and we should all move to the music, right?

About the picture. The year is 1963 and the photos show men and women trying to learn the Hully Gully steps. Judging from the pictures, there are some difficulty in learning the Hully Gully dance.
