Born as a princess. Princess Louise of Battenberg was the daughter of Prince Louis of Battenberg, admiral of the fleet in the United Kingdom and Princess Victoria of Hesse by Rhine, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
Brother of the last Viceroy of India. Louise was a sister of Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, who was killed by a bomb 1979
Her courtship with a crown prince. 1923 the Swedish crown prince began to court her and although she had said that she would never marry a king or a widower, she accepted the proposal of the man destined to be both.
Becoming a Crown Princess. Louise became officially the first lady of Sweden and was expected to perform the duties of a queen, twenty years before she actually became queen.
Finally a queen. In 1950 Louise became queen of Sweden after accession to the throne of her husband. She was described as eccentric for royalty and temperamental.
Queen Louise died on 7 of March 1965 and is buried beside her husband King Gustaf VI Adolf.
